If you love seafood and are looking for a great seafood restaurant in Orlando, add Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen + Bar to your list. They celebrated their 5th Anniversary in February 2022 so here are 5 reasons why they continue to be my favorite spot for seafood in Winter Park. Owner Fred Thimm and his wife Carey have shown an unwavering commitment to serving the freshest fish and seafood from Florida’s Atlantic and Gulf Coast. at a great value.

It’s no surprise they’ve been recognized with multiple awards including “Orlando’s Best Restaurant” by Orlando Magazine readers and Orlando’s “Best Seafood” and “Best Brunch” by Orlando Magazine and the Orlando Sentinel. Inspired by classic Florida fish camps, Reel Fish Coastal offers a wide variety of seafood, most from Florida and Louisiana, in a contemporary family-friendly atmosphere. Think rustic fish camp meets trendy Winter Park where you can enjoy the coastal vibes inland. Orlando isn’t far from the water after all!

FRESH FLORIDA SEAFOOD AND DAILY BLACKBOARD SPECIALS

Owner and operator Fred Thimm has had a lifelong love of being on or near the water. Reel Fish is committed to sustainability and accessibility of the highest quality local fish and seafood. The menu features a rotating selection of seasonally available fresh fish served in generous portions. Daily blackboard specials and core recipes feature creative takes on fresh-caught fish not typically found on many inland-Florida seafood restaurant menus, including tilefish, triggerfish, sheepshead, hogfish, and other local species.

Love a whole fried fish? You got it! Prefer roasted? No problem. The fresh ceviche of the day is fantastic too!

BOUTIQUE OYSTERS

Reel Fish is the place for oysters in Orlando. Raw bar specialties include a rotating selection of as many as 6-12 varieties of fresh Local Florida and cold water oysters daily. Sourced from various locations, including the Florida Gulf Coast, Apalachicola, Mid Atlantic, New England, and Canada areas.  Each offers different flavor profiles for guests to enjoy prepared “Raw, Roasted or Rockefeller.” (Think the 3 R’s)

I love the boutique fresh Florida oysters from Sublime Oyster Supply in Wakulla County and Reel Fish was the first restaurant I tried them at. They are now popular all around town!

  • Oysters on the Half Shell, with housemade cocktail sauce, cucumber mignonette & housemade oyster crackers (which are highly addictive!) The Cucumber mignonette made in house with cucumber, shallots, fresh ginger, sugar, fresh cucumber and red wine vinegar, and House cocktail sauce, made with chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, white vinegar, horseradish, sugar and salt.

Make it a meal and add a quart of cilantro rice for only $6. Lift a glass with $5 Seaside Margaritas and Sangrias open to close.

The Reel Fish menu also features an impressive “From The Land” selection with Creekstone Farms steaks, burgers, and all-natural chicken. The chicken tacos and fried chicken sliders during Happy Hour are scrumptious. The Chicken & Waffles for brunch are equally impressive.

You don’t want to miss Carey’s Coconut Cake! It’s absolutely dreamy. Of course, no seafood restaurant in Florida can skip on featuring Key Lime Pie and Reel Fish does not disappoint. If you want something more decadent, try the bread pudding. All are large enough to share.

Happy Monday! ☕️ Busy Busy Busy week ahead… Happy Monday! ☕️ Busy Busy Busy week ahead… so excited for new client work and my family coming to town. I will definitely be fueled by coffee! There’s so much going on in my life  that I often feel like I don’t know what’s what, but one thing is for sure, i’ll always find the best coffee shops. 🤣
Since my coffee outings lately have all been work related, it’s nice when you can soothe your soul in the process. 
☕️ The Dulce de Leche iced latte at @cfscoffee is heaven sent! 😇 (Think next level caramel latte) The CFS Winter Park location, tucked near Hannibal Square, is so cute and a great work and meeting spot. Their motto “Coffee For The Soul” is 💯

Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is in the house! 🙌🏼 I'm throwing it back to one of the most memorable bucket list dinners ever... MOMOKASE at @morimotoasiafla 
You can catch Chef Morimoto behind the sushi bar and mingling with guests during service on Sunday 8/14 and Monday 8/15. @chef_morimoto is such a cool guy to meet. I've been fortunate to interview him and see him in action! (which you can read all about on GoEpicurista.com)

I highly recommend booking Omakase at Morimoto Asia at @disneysprings . It's an amazing splurge-worthy experience available to book with 48-hour notice based on availability and hosted by the restaurant's chefs. When Chef Morimoto is in town, then it's an extra special treat!

Korean BBQ... but make it bougie! This course at @ Korean BBQ... but make it bougie! This course at @doshiorlando's elevated Korean-American experience had us all gasping with a near religious experience. LOL! 
🥩 14-day dry-aged wagyu filet, marinated in bulgogi spices 
🍄 Served table-side over a gorgeous plate of grilled, pickled, and raw mushrooms, pickled mustard seed, pickled cucumber, & smoked date puree 
🦴 Topped with a beef bones reduction stewed over 48 hours. 
🍚 On the side: Banchan of pickled Asian pear, pickled cucumber & pickled daikon radish  with pork belly kimchi fried rice
Doshi Orlando features two multi-course dinner options: 
⭐️ Option 1: 10-course at the Chef's Counter, $165pp
⭐️ Option 2: 6-course in the Dining Room, $85pp (which is what I experienced)
I loved the entire experience and the attentiveness of the staff and chefs. I need to return for the 10 course experience!

NEW Orlando Restaurant You Must Add To Your List! NEW Orlando Restaurant You Must Add To Your List! I managed to snag a reservation for @edoboysushi and loved every bite. Sushi fans, this place is for you! 
Here are the deets:
🍣 Orlando's first and only 8 person standing sushi bar
🍣 Menu: Nigiri + Hand Rolls + Miso Soup + Beer + Sake
🍣 Choose up to 12 pieces + soup (don't skip the soup!)
🍣 Pieces are prepared and served immediately, one at a time
🍣 Reservations are required. No Walk-Ins
🍣 1-hour standing dining experience. Wear comfy shoes!
🍣 Time slots drop every Monday at 12pm. They fill up fast!
🍣 Part of Sonny Nguyen's @domufl & @toritoripub dynasty! (Both Michelin Guide recognized and I predict Edoboy will be in the guide next year!)
Every bite was meticulously prepared. Some of the best sushi I've ever had. It was tough to choose a favorite but I would say ask for recommendations. Don’t miss the torched bites, especially the torched sweet shrimp topped with uni butter - MUST EAT- and the hand rolls! 
The Uni was the biggest surprise. I rarely order it but Chef Tyler said I had to try it and I'm glad I did. It reminded me of what Iron Chef Morimoto told me once, "if you think you don't like something, it's probably because you didn't like how it was prepared." This uni from Baja was an elegant bite that converted me to an uni fan.
Head Chef Tyler, previously from Tori Tori, worked on developing this menu for 2 years and it shows! It was great to watch him and Chef Francis work side by side.

🍣 Shima Aji (Japanese stripe jack)
🍣 Hotate (Maine scallop)
🍣 Aka Ebi (sweet red prawn)
🍣 Uni (sea urchin)
🍣 Hotate Kewpie (torched, Maine scallop, kewpie mayo)
🍣 Aburi Aka Ebi (torched, sweet red prawn, uni butter)
🍣 Sake - Kewpie (torched salmon, kewpie mayo)
🍣 Dynamite Hand Roll (spicy scallop, sweet red prawn, hamachi tartare)
🍣 Blue Crab Truffle Hand Roll (w truffle kewpie mayo, cucumber)
🍲 Miso Soup - made from the bones of the fish used that day, it was fan-tas-tic!

I was invited to preview @doshiorlando, the new elevated Korean-American multi-course dining experience in Winter Park which is now on my list of Must Visit Splurge-Worthy Restaurants in Orlando
We ended the fun tasting evening with the FOREST FLOOR: dark chocolate, pine nuts, yuja meringue, & ganache. It was a full sensory experience, the smoke, the scent, every bite was a surprise of textures and flavors. The little magic meringue mushrooms were my favorite! 
Every course featured inspired dishes by an all-star team of chefs: Rikku Ó'Donnchü, Gene Kim, brothers Ray and Mike Gillette and I even spotted chef Hung Huynh of @bravotopchef in the open kitchen!🌟 You won't find another menu like this in Orlando!

🥧 The Nighttime Sky Pie is a MUST EAT! Featured on @FoodNetwork Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins & Dives, made with scratch-made graham crackers, sandwiching a layer of hand-whipped vanilla Bourbon bacon marshmallow and finished with a dip in 70% chocolate.

Let's close "National Culinary Arts Month" with a Let's close "National Culinary Arts Month" with a little recap of the biggest event of the year for Florida's and Orlando's culinary scene: The Inaugural @MichelinGuide 2022 Florida Edition Announcements! 
As a local foodie who's been writing about Orlando's culinary scene for the past 10 years - and has been saying over and over again that Orlando IS a culinary destination - it was a thrill to be in attendance and see our local chefs receive well-deserved recognition. 
It's no surprise the food and cocktails at this reception were impressive! @ritzcarltonorlando and the various invited chefs did amazing! Passed hors d'oeuvres with linen cocktail napkins included my favorite savory goat cheese macarons, lobster topped with caviar, filet topped with caviar, in fact even caviar on top of caviar! It was swanky! A lovely Gin Tonic Bar by @nordesgin and a @remymartinus tasting table were my favorite sips of the night. 
But enough about the food, let's talk about the culinary legends honored!

When asked for "The Best Ramen in Orlando" and "Th When asked for "The Best Ramen in Orlando" and "The Best Wings in Orlando" - @domufl is at the top of my list! You can’t beat house-made noodles and rich broth in a variety of bowls, and those super crispy, almost like candy, chicken wings! DOMU was recently recognized by @michelinguide in their first Florida edition with a well-deserved "Bib Gourmand" designation. If you haven't been, add Domu to your list and go! 
MY MUST-EATS:
🍗DOMU WINGS - Extra Crispy! coated in kimchi butter sauce, so good!
🍜 RICHIE RICH RAMEN - Miso-Shoyu Pork bone Broth, Chasu, Kikurage, Scallion, Fried Garlic, Black Garlic Oil, Domudama, and their signature ajitama Brulee egg.
🍜 TOKYO RAMEN -  Shoyu Chicken Broth, Fried Chicken Thigh, Ajitama Brulee, Kikurage, Garlic Chives, Infused Duck Fat, Garlic Scallion Confit
🍜 MISO RAMEN - Spicy Red Blonde Miso Broth, Chasu, Corn, Bean Sprouts, Scallions, Kikurage, Komi Oil.
🍦 SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM: End with a cone of house-made soft serve ice cream. Flavors rotate. I love Vietnamese Coffee & Horchata
🥃 COCKTAILS: My go-to is the SMOKED OLD FASHIONED. Their bar program is top notch so I always ask the bartenders for their latest cocktail creations.

Capa's former Chef de Cuisine, Gabriel Massip has been promoted to oversee multiple outlets at the Five Diamond resort and now talented Chef Malyna Si takes the reigns of the award-winning steakhouse! Say hi on your next visit. She's moved her way up the ranks and we're all for seeing her shine!
