Day 2 of My Epic 35 Days of Epcot: SPAIN!
It’s all about Spain A country I love and hope to return to someday soon. You know what I always say about someday…
The Marketplace is located between Germany and Italy, around the World Showcase lagoon.
Visit Spain Inspiration.
Spain is an amazing country. Full of life, flavor and vibrancy. The people, the architecture and of course the food envelope you full of passion and life.
This quote by famed Spanish chef Jose Andres says it best:
“Spain is a fascinating mix of people, languages, culture and food, but if there’s one thing all Spaniards share, it’s a love of food and drink.”
“Spain is a fascinating mix of people, languages, culture and food, but if there’s one thing all Spaniards share, it’s a love of food and drink.”
I never met a Spaniard that didn’t enjoy a glass of tinto and Jamon Iberico.
My first visit to Spain, was to the quaint city of Seville in 1985. I fell in love – with the city, the food and with the cute young waiter who accidentally spilled tomato sauce all over my white blouse. I was 13. That young love was not meant to be.
I returned in 1989, and briefly toured the highlights of Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Cordoba, Grenada and Valencia. I fell in love again – with the country this time. I’ve looked forward to returning to Spain someday for many years. Since my mission at GoEpicurista is to “Make Someday Happen” I plan to return next year to Barcelona, with my husband this time, the true love of my life. I can’t wait to share the beauty of this country with him and my family.
In the meantime, I can dream of the food and wine we will share while at Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. Disney’s culinary team serves up flavorful representations of the dishes that best conjure images of Spain. From charcuterie to seafood. Traditional paella to surprising olive oil cake. It’s all delicious!

Spain Must Eat Dishes:
The Spain marketplace is a winner! All food items are “Must Eat” and “Must Drink” in my book. Order all of them and share with friends.
^ Charcuterie in a Cone
This is one of The Chew favorites and one of mine. You really can’t go wrong with a high quality selection of imported Spanish meats, cheeses and olives. You also may not want to share it! It’s perfect to walk around the park, but guaranteed you devour before you make it to the next marketplace.

^ Traditional Spanish Paella and Seafood Salad
Both are full of flavor, which made me wish even more I was back in Spain. They were both good portions to share a few bites with 1 or 2 friends.

^ Sweet Olive Oil Cake
The biggest and best surprise. A hit even with kids!
I shared these dishes with a fun family, on holiday from Connecticut. I just met them as they were so kind to share their picnic table and umbrella to shield me from the rain. Their two adorable young daughters, Hailey and Emma loved the cake! It’s a fluffy yellow cake, no surprise their eyes lit up when I told them I couldn’t possibly eat all this food by myself and asked for volunteers to help me. The powdered sugar and lemon curd elevated the cake with a tangy and sweet flavor combo that made it difficult to resist a second and third bite. I didn’t tell them it was olive oil in the cake (a trick for those picky eaters). The olive oil flavor is very subtle. The look of surprise on their faces when they learned the not-so-secret ingredient was priceless! Truly a highlight of my day. That and, little Emma devouring a giant pretzel from Germany. It was as big as her head! These young foodies in the making made great dining companions. Thank you girls!
Spain Must Drink Beverages:
^ The Wine Flight!
The choice of beverage in Spain is wine! I was surprised they didn’t have a sangria available but the flight selection offers a Spanish white, rose and red wine was a great treat. The wines complemented the dishes very nicely. Flights are a great way to explore wines you may not be familiar with.
