Celebrate Food Holidays in Orlando in February
Food holiday are a fun reason (i.e. excuse) to get together with friends and share great food and drinks. I had so much fun compiling fun trivia about food holidays in January and finding the best places to celebrate food holidays in Orlando, that I’m doing it again for February. I learned so much about the history of some of my favorite foods! Who knew that cheese dates back to 5,500 BCE in what is now Poland? Or that popcorn was sold by horse-drawn wagons in the early 1900s? I can’t wait to see what’s in store for February.
The month of February is dominated by Valentine’s day. Every store is nothing but pink hearts and red roses! However, you would be missing out on so many fun holidays this month if you only focus on that one holiday. For example, we have month-long celebrations for potatoes, chocolate, snacks, and breakfast. Week-long festivities for pancakes and even a National Margarita Weekend! Of course we also have important holidays this month like National Black History Month. I really enjoyed learning about the first cookbook printed by an African American woman and her historic peach cobbler (You can read all about it here).
No matter where you are – whether you’re in Orlando or around the world – I hope this list gives you the inspiration to find the perfect spot to get together with friends. Have a party every day! Go check out that new restaurant or great food shop. Throw a fun theme party at home. How will you celebrate food holidays in Orlando or in your hometown?
If you’ve been telling friends that you promise you’ll get together more often this year, then pick a date, decide on a place and go Make Someday Happen!

This list was compiled via web research from Wikipedia, NationalDayCalendar.com, Foodimentary.com, TheNibble.com and BonAppetit.com. Each site had slightly different lists, because food holidays are not all “official” and not all are popular or commonly celebrated. Did I miss any of them? Let me know.
If you’re wondering where all these food holidays and all other holidays come from, petitions are introduced by constituents, trade associations or public relations firms to honor industries, events, professions, hobbies, etc. The president of the United States has the authority to declare a commemorative event or day by proclamation, but fewer than 150 are granted per year. According to Bon Appetit magazine, “State legislatures and governors can also proclaim special observance days, as do mayors of cities, which is why there can be a National Chocolate Day and a National Chocolate Month, as well as two National Guacamole Days—authorized at different levels of government. After the observance day has been authorized, it is up to the petitioner to promote it to the public.”
Basically, celebrate every day. This list just gives you an excuse or a fun theme to do so.
