Is an Italian Road Trip on your “Someday List”?
An Italian Road Trip along the Amalfi Coast is on my “Someday List” – the list of things you want to do “someday” but somehow never find the time to do? You may know it as a bucket list. I’m on a mission to check things off that list and #MakeSomedayHappen. Saving money and lots of planning are involved, so until that glorious trip can take place, I find alternative events and outings that fuel those desires and keep me inspired to celebrate life. I call them GO Events.
I attended one of my featured Top 9 GO Events at Mitchell’s Fish Market in Winter Park to review their #ItalyUncorked Wine Dinner for City Surfing Orlando. What a delicious food and wine experience that was! You can read all about it here. I’m always amazed at how food can transport us to far-away places.
The National Geographic “Drives of a Lifetime” inspired me to add this Italian Road Trip to my “Someday list”. The Italy Uncorked dinner at Mitchell’s Fish Market further whet my appetite. Visions of winding roads, pastel colored buildings, mountains contrasted by cobalt blue ocean waters all dancing in my head. I can imagine the wind in my hair (I’m in a convertible, of course!), the warmth of the sun on my skin and the food – oh yes the amazing food! – as we make frequent stops to take pictures and nosh on local cuisine along the way. Have you ever had such an experience, where the food is so wonderful that it transports you to another place or time?
“Must Do” Experiences on my Italian Road Trip along the Amalfi Coast include:
- ^ Devour an authentic Pizza Napoletana in Naples They take their pizza-making seriously and host a pizza festival each year!
^ Admire Caravaggio’s Seven Acts of Mercy at the Pio Monte Misericordia in Naples
^ Sip Pinot Griggio and Dine on Spaguetti alle Vongole al fresco in Naples
^ Time travel back to 79AD touring the ruins of Pompeii
^ Drive along the 43-mile infamous Amalfi Drive from Sorrento to Salerno
^ Be serenaded by waiters during a romantic dinner in Sorrento
^ Watch the world go by sipping wine and noshing on my favorite salad, Insalata Caprese, from a café in La Piazetta of Capri
^ Take the chairlift ride up to Monte Solaro, the highest point on Capri (1,932) to admire the bay views of Naples and Salerno (Will I conquer my fear of heights once and for all?)
^ Sip cocktails and limoncello at swanky, Michelin-starred, Il San Pietro di Positano
^ Shop for made-to-measure artisan sandals in Positano
^ Catch the rays at the beautiful beaches of Praiano
^ Attend church service at the Duomo di Sant’ Andrea in Amalfi
^ Listen to classical music at the Festival Musicale di Ravello
^ Cook with Mamma Agata, and sample Humphrey Bogart’s favorite Dolce al Limone, in Salerno
^ Try the Anchovi syrup in the fishing village of Cetara
I’m certain, as my planning continues, I will add many more “Must-Dos” to this list. Please let me know in the comments below if you have any recommendations for can’t miss experiences.
